KYBURZ New Year's drinks 2025

On Monday, 6 January 2025, the KYBURZ employees met in the show room in Freienstein to start the new year together. After the company holidays, it's great to see everyone again and to start the year fresh.

2025 will be a special year for KYBURZ: with the move to the new building in Embrach, many changes and exciting challenges are on the agenda. There is great anticipation for the new chapter.

KYBURZ participates in the ReUse project: Innovations for sustainable battery recycling

The ReUse project, an acronym for "Efficient direct recycling for low-value LFP battery for circular and sustainable waste management", is an ambitious research initiative with a duration of 36 months. The aim is to increase recyclability and sustainability in the European supply chain for lithium-ion batteries. This project, which started in January 2024, is co-funded by the EU's Horizon Europe programme and the Swiss State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI).

At its core, ReUse aims to maximise material recovery and thereby strengthen the global competitiveness of the European battery ecosystem. A consortium of 13 partners from eight European countries, which first met in Würzburg, Germany, in January 2024, is driving this initiative forward.

As part of ReUse, KYBURZ's innovative battery recycling team is focussing on two key areas: Investigating the impact of the final discharge process on material quality and further developing its water recycling process. This research work is intended to pass on valuable expertise to the project partners and improve the efficiency of lithium-ion battery recycling.

We at KYBURZ are proud of our team's involvement in this important project and wish them every success in their innovative work towards a more sustainable battery ecosystem.

eTrolleys handed over to Austrian Post

Martin Jerg recently travelled to Vienna to carry out an important handover: 49 eTrolleys were handed over to Austrian Post. Together with our contact Günter Gritsch and Andreas Eschlmüller, he carried out a thorough inspection and acceptance of the vehicles. These eTrolleys are now ready to go into service in various towns and cities across Austria.

The handover also provided a good opportunity for an intensive exchange between the KYBURZ and Austrian Post teams. The employees' appreciation of the eTrolleys and the DXPs already in use, possible suggestions for improvement and experiences with previous repair and service work were discussed. Such discussions are extremely valuable for KYBURZ in order to continuously improve our products and services.

KYBURZ is delighted to have successfully realised this order and would like to thank Austrian Post for the trust it has placed in us. As usual, KYBURZ will do everything in its power to offer a first-class after-sales service. Our aim is to ensure that the vehicles are in use for a long time, safely and to the complete satisfaction of Austrian Post and its employees.

A successful start to the season for eRod enthusiasts

On Easter Saturday last week, the first round of the Dry Racing Cup 2024 took place in Röthis (AT). Traditionally, some of our customers are also represented at this race with their eRods. This year we were even able to set a new record in terms of eRod participation! A total of 8 eRods started in Röthis!

The majority of the group combined the journey to Röthis with a ride. So they travelled to Röthis together on Friday evening with their eRods. In Röthis, we all had a very enjoyable and fun dinner together to "mentally" prepare for race day. :)

In the race, everyone started with their eRods in two classes: AE (Alternative Energy) and AE-REG (Alternative Energy - Regularity). In the AE category, the aim is to drive the fastest possible laps on the specified track and in the AE-REG category, the aim is to drive the most consistent lap times possible. Each of the drivers was able to complete two practice runs and four qualifying runs on the track.

Between Formula Renault cars and converted sports cars, the eRod drivers once again set great times. Bernie Küpfer took first place in both AE categories with his eRod - congratulations! We won a total of 7 trophies in the various classes!

All participants had a lot of fun and the great results were the icing on the cake. We would like to thank all the riders for this successful outing and are already looking forward to the next race day!

2ndLife production is running at full speed

The assembly of 2ndLife vehicles is currently underway on the KYBURZ production line in Embrach. 120 vehicles are being produced. ‘These vehicles will be like new, but the assembly is more complicated than with new vehicles,’ says production employee Burhan Shoshaj. He is referring to improvements and simplifications that have been implemented over the years to improve new vehicles.

The team is also challenged in the work preparation department: ‘Organising the material so that it is prepared and delivered in the required quantity is a challenge,’ says Sandro Schmidli. He also has to re-enter the chassis numbers in the system (the vehicles have already been produced once) and reassign them.

Of the 120 vehicles that are being built these days, 40 will have new chassis. ‘The chassis is currently the limiting component,’ explains Carmine Volpe (Head of Supply Chain Management), because ‘there are also chassis that can no longer be used due to collisions and corrosion.’

However, the challenging implementation of the idea of the circular economy seems to motivate all employees, all the more so as twenty of the vehicles have already been sold!
